Plastic Impregnation (PI) Technology

Plastic impregnation (PI) is the process of injecting a polymer material between the inner & outer strands of a steel wire rope rope.  This processes enhances the longevity of our ropes by reducing the friction between the internal & external strands, increasing bend fatigue resistance & core stability.

The plastication process is completed at the time of manufacturing through extrusion ensuring optimal coverage and impregnation between the strands.

Improved durability & wear resistance.

The primary goal of plastic impregnation is to improve the durability, wear resistance, and corrosion protection of wire ropes. The introduction of plastic into the rope reduces internal corrosion for the wire rope core and helps maintain the structural integrity of the rope by keeping the strands in place preventing internal movement that leads to premature wear.

  • Improved corrosion resistance - The plastic layer prevents water and corrosive substances from penetrating the core of the rope.
